Description: Human remains and artefacts are not known from many British sites, but the lack of evidence for human presence at those sites could be due to true absence or to lack of care in identifying signs of their presence. Sites that we have identified as 'no evidence of human presence' are ones where we have looked carefully for artefacts, cut marks, and signs of burning and have found none, suggesting that humans really were absent from the site. Verification that humans were not present is especially important for sites 400,000 to 70,000 years ago when humans were scarce or completely absent from Britain. [pdp].
